AirBnB helping or hindering?
Is AirBnB inflating helping our housing shortage crises or making it worse?
According to a study y Simon Fraser University Students, the sale of Airbnb short and long term rentals have increased this year by 62%.
While this many be assisting home owners with mortgage payments it does not help with the crises of attainable housing throughout BC. 42% of renters are paying in excess of 30% of their wages on rent in Metro Vancouver and this is mimicked throughout the BC Interior, according to BCNPHA’s Housing Index. Many have turned to AirBnB simply because there is no other accommodation available. This does not create security for renters who’s accommodation can simply be deleted at the click of a button with no recourse.
